Trezor Trezor introduced its new flagship Safe 5 hardware wallet at BTC Prague 2024 that boasts onboarding services and a Bitcoin-only version.

What's the scoop?

  • New Features: The Safe 5 includes a larger color touchscreen, a new secure element, and a 20-word backup process using Shamir's secret sharing to split the master key into multiple parts, ensuring access even if some parts are lost.
  • Onboarding Service: Trezor also launched "Trezor Expert," a one-on-one onboarding service to help customers set up and secure their wallets.

Bankless Take:

With onboarding services and Bitcoin-only options, Trezor’s latest hardware wallet aims to instill the feeling of keeping valuables in a bank safe instead of just leveling up your security. While hardware wallets likely aren't the ticket to scaling to the next billion users, they're a useful tool to teach the values of self-custody and help those particularly active in the space to protect themselves.
